Hi i have had acid reflux for the past 4 years.I take prilosec.Rescently in the past 6 months i have had uncontrollable belching,seems like all i am doind all day is belching...i have no symptoms of heartburn,the prilosec seems to keep that in check,but i belch from the time i get up till i go too sleep it seems.I read where acid defficiency can produce belching...so i started only taking 1/2 pill of prilosec and at first it seemed to help..but now its back..and i am getting reflux from the belching,i only ever get reflux from the belching bringing it up,and the other night i ate before bed and almost choked on the reflux that i burped up.I dont know if this belching is caused by the prilosec or what is going on?because i think its under control i mean i have no more heartburn just belching...also worried this could be stomach cancer...any comments would be of great help

Hello jdlawn, you should definitely see a specialist about this problem and have him do a scope to take a look inside. I know someone who had this chronic problem but it was fixed with surgery (Endoscopic Nissen Fundoplication). He was constantly burping up food and acid so the specialist recommended this surgery (since you cannot burp or vomit ever again after it is done). Now he feels like a new man.
See what your doctor says - if this interferes with your everyday life, you should have it checked out.

yES YOU NEED TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT, THE SOONER THE BETTER. I just had the surgery after ignoring my Hernia for 15 yrs. I ended up 100% disable and on the bring of loosing my esophagus to GERD. I thought it was all do to by food allergies instead of a hernia. I can sleep now instead of being up every 2-4 hours of sleep at a time. Get in A.S.A.P. I was a 3 prevacid a day person.

I agree...get it checked. Seems solvable to me. BTW, I have had 3 successful surgeries (NF) and should be having a 4th very soon. Every one I have been able to burp and although difficult, vomit. Fortunately, I have rarely needed to vomit throughout my life!
