Sinusitis and Gerd

just popped over and saw this post... was at allergist two weeks ago to check for asthma cause i have been getting as cough and breathing issues shortly after i eat, when i wake up.. whenever..

asthma test fine but doc said gerd can cause my sinus problems, post nasal drip, coughing, and basically most of the problems i thought were allergies.. granted i am allergic to everything and tests confirmed it.. but doc moved me from prilosec otc back to protonix 40 mg and it has been a noticeable difference.. my gerd is from slow gastic emptying or slow motility... having endoscopy in two weeks cause its been four years and knock wood i hope there is no real damage...

but yeah, sinus can be irritated from acid vapors... causes post nasal drip...makes you sound like a 80 year old chain smoker.

Hi, Barb...the bravo endoscopy is new. When they do the scope, they place a chip in you that monitors the acid in your system. The old way is to put a plastic strip in your esphagus and then remove it. Anyway with the new way the chip disappears and you wear a monitor. It is supposed to be gentler on you and you just return the monitor (probably to the hospital).

Thanks for rooting for me. I am also very happy to say that I did not have a sore or ulcer, he thinks it was probably a broken blood vessel. (That was probably from coughing with the asthma and all the yuk you get up). I had two nights with no reflux meds and feel fine.

I am very glad your son is back too and hope he does not get called up again.  I remember the tragedy of VietNam too.

Hi Joan, thanks for letting me know that. That sounds like the thing my doctor is going to do to me when they get that equipment in a few more months. There is talk of sending my son back in February. For his sake and my granddaughter I hope this doesn't happen. He is the only descent parent she has. When he gets full custody he is going to try to get transfered up by us and become a recruiter which is a non deployable position.

Warrior I have those problems with my gerd and asthma. You need to get that taken care of before you end up with asthma like me. It's nothing to mess with. Barb

Hi, I just wanted to respond...I have constant sinus infecstions and possibly gerd.  I am really tired of the infections and the drs dont' know what else to do.  I can relate to your posts and understand your problems.

Hi, my symptoms right now include a bad headache, post nasal drip, dizziness, and tiredness. Slight sore throat. There is a weather change here too..went from the 80's to rainy and barely 60. This is very frustrating.

Hi everybody...gee, Pandacrazy you are right. I am happy I don't have to go through what you went through. I got to look on the bright side.

Vanessa...my allergist explained by way of picture how the sinus stuff gets caught in the tube which connects to your inner ear. The inner ear controls your sense of balance. They can test you for it and you give you a pill...which is called antivert or mezecline is the generic. Luckily you don't have to take an antibiotic for it.

Yes, I am in Wisconsin. The weather does suck sometimes here. What would that ear drops do?? I went to doctor and have pretty bad infection. So, back on antibotics.

You live in Wi too?? I have tried that spray to no avail..nothing seems to help no matter what I do. Does Gerd really cause sinusitis????

Oops missed the last part of that. Yes I believe it can. It can cause asthma which it did in my case. That acid is meant to stay in the stomach. I have a ho**** voice from it too and sometimes sore throats. Have you tried alergy meds or nasonex? Those might help to head off infections too. Barb

please i hope that someone could help me.  i am pleased to read all of the supportive advice given to eachother.  ok i had a "sinus infection" last year were the whole right side of my face hurt.  also with the post nasal drip.  i had the lump sensation in my throat too.  i was prescribed antibiotic for the sinus, and nexium, but now on prilosec (nexium too expensive).  i am still having problems and its been over a year now!  like a pain on the right side of my throat(by "adams apple") i dont have a sore throat though.  i have not been taking the prilosec because i do not want to get in the routine of taking meds.  i feel once you start with one, then you'll end up on four.  anyway  its the pain, and the clearing of the throat.  my doc said gerd, but i did not read symptoms of pain in the throat on the message board from anyone with gerd.  i think its gerd, but could it be something else too?  i had a cbc blood test done, and that was ok.  could someone please help me, and let me know what to do to get rid of this whole thing.  gerd, pain in the throat?  it is very frustrating and hard for me to focus on life sometimes from so much worry.

I'm not sure either and will know more about my situation after my bravo test. I know that I have an allergic nose and also a neuro-motor nose that reacts to pollution and pollens, dust mites, etc. Anyway it can get pushed up to your sinuses and sort of drip down. You can also aspirate (or breath in) the acid in your diet. I am trying to limit my caffeine, lose weight and not eat at night. Currently I am not taking any GERD meds and am not feeling any different about it.
