GERD or something else?

I am new to this so I am unsure if I am even doing this correctly but I am willing to try anything to get some help.  I have had a chronic cough for several years now. In the past it starts with me getting a cold and then I after the cold is over I just kept the dry cough for 2-3 months.  This time after the cold went away (4 months ago) I still have the cough.  Have been to a ear nose and throat specialist who says sinus area is clear.  Now working with a gastro Dr.  So far he did an Endoscope which shows a Hiatal(?) Hernia and some reflux.  Just completed a Bravo monitor today and should have the results by the end of week but not holding out much hope for a resolution based on what I have read.  My levels stayed around the 7 mark most of the time. 

Always feel the need to cough or clear my throat because something is there but nothing is.  The ONLY relief I get is at night.  When I lay down and get still I stop coughing and my throat doesn't feel clogged up.  Since I can't stay in bed the rest of my life (I am only 40) I need HELP.  Any suggestions?

I know what you're going through. I coughed for three years before the doctor decided it was acid getting into my windpipe.
Meanwhile raise the head of your bed as high as you can stand and don't eat or drink anything for four hours before bedtime.
I wound up having to have my hiatal hernia repaired and getting a 270 degree wrap (Nissen Fundoplication).
I don't cough anymore. :)
