Hi Jules,During your first week you can have some very strange and difficult problems. I remember having a day when my mouth or esophagus was making so much mucous that I had to spit it out. Swallowing it hurt too much and my esophagus and wrap were too tired (that's what I called it ) to handle that much swallowing.
I remember times during the first week that when I swallowed it felt like a giant air-bubble going down.
Swallowing in the first week is especially dicey. From day to day you'll have different issues coming up.
Remember that your wrap will become increasingly swollen over the next couple weeks, and swallowing will become worse before it gets better. This week a lot of it is just plain surgical pain. As the swelling increases, it will create a few more difficulties...
Have you tried warm tea? Try to get your liquids to room temperature before drinking them. See if that helps.
Of course, you are the only on who knows what you're feeling, and are the judge of whether or not it's a medical issue that needs attention. I can just say that the first week is very difficult and there are lots of hurdles. Swallowing can hurt, your esophagus can spasm...there's a range of responses to the surgery that your upper GI tract can have.
Just hang in there. It's all worth it! Things will improve.
We're here for you!
Denise
