Hey everyone. I started to feel sick like 3 months ago, mostly at night, with bloating and nausea. That progressed to now having this horrible burning in my stomach, chest, nose, mouth and even my eyes! My mouth tastes like metal, often. After having every test, scope, Upper GI, and a gal bladder function test, they said they can not find the cause. This is so frustrating and is destroying my life. I get no sleep, I had to drop out of school because I am so beat up and exhausted I could not do my work anymore. I was supposed to transfer out of state to another school and was so looking forward to it. Everything is a mess. I read that most gastritis cases go away when treated, my does not and seems to only get worse.

My first question to everyone is does anyone else get the burning sensations in the mouth, nose and even eyes at times from this? I swear, I feel like I am being poisoned. Second, what works for you? None of the PPIs they give me seem to work, or bloat me ten fold. I just want to know what is causing this, I head that gastritis is a symptom of a problem, but what is the problem!? I have a theory that I may be getting mercury poisoning from my new fillings. I had them put in right before I got sick. I don't know, just worried and feeling helpless.

Yep burning all over, when i had difficulties with my GERD i had severe burning or soar throat and also the tounge, eyes was burning from time to time and bloating is common with GERD.

Gastritis is also common, the irritation upsets the rest of the stomach so you get all kinds of different symptoms depdending how severe they are, myself thought gastritis was the worst part, soar throat i could handle.

Sorry to hear of your problems -- hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

You may put your mind at ease about the amalgam fillings. They have been used for eons, now, and the amount of actual mercury in them is extremely tiny. Studies show that there is statistically very little chance of the mercury migrating into your system, despite those ads on the internet from those trying to sell you something...

I have gone to the ER numerous times over the years because of gastritis and it does get to the point that I do have a burning throat, even sinus issues from reflux related GERD but the nausea is the worst for me. You didn't say if you were taking anything to get it under control or not but maybe you should talk to the doctor about that. I take Zegerid otc and it does help. I am sure sooner or later I will need something stronger.

Hey Tinlou, I have tried every OTC antacid and one prescription one called Dexilant. I also take liquid carafate which seems to help a little. I went to ER 3 times in October when this started, I hear you. I thought i was having a heart attack a couple times and it sent me into panic attacks as a result. Misery I tell you. I just worry about the burning eyes and nose etc...seems so odd. It;s not like the acid is coming up my throat. I will eat something, first my stomach will burn then a minute or two later my nose and mouth will burn. But at no point does any acid make it's way up into those areas, I don't get it.

I didn't think the acid could travel either but my doctor diagnosed me when I told her that I was having all kinds of ear/sinus problems. I never ever put the two together. Apparently, it is silent gerd and when I/you sleep the acid can travel up into the esophagus into the ears and sinuses which then causes its own set of troubles. I never actually felt it traveling but would just end up with these strange symptoms like yours. Of course, I had the usual nausea/burning in my stomach too from the gastritis.
You might have to try a few different meds before you find one that works for you. Some of them ended up giving me anxiety/panic attacks so I ended up with just the zegerid for now.
Giving up chocolate also has helped quite a bit, it was a huge trigger for me because I love it and would always keep something chocolate around to munch on but I can't anymore. Have you eliminated anything from your diet to see if that helps?

Out of curiosity, have you tried something like Pepto Bismol?
