How about unsuccessful nissens?

I heard some real positive stories, but what about complications?

I hope I can't get worse from this surgery?

But anything is possible right?

Hi Maximus,

If you do your homework and are very careful with your surgeon selection, you should do just fine.  The thing about a skilled Nissen surgeon with lots of experienced doing the procedure is that he/she's not going to do it without a complete battery of tests, and will not do it on someone who is not a good candidate.

There are surgeons out there who, while very competent surgeons--maybe even excellent--generally, do not have enough experience with this particular procedure.  That can lead to some big problems post-op.

Yeah I have had a not so typical round of nissens. My first was done wrong and took 3 years to get figured out. During my first redo they put 2 holes in my stomach trying to undo the original wrap. I had to go back to the hospital for about 3 weeks. Then came the esophageal tear that the repair of destroyed my redo. Finally healed enough to have it redone again last august and all is well now.

I would do it again tomorrow if need be.
