Can a hiatus be "cured" with natural medicine.

Does anyone know if a hiatus can be cured with natural medicine?

I recently had a barium swallow test because of daily acid reflux and it turned out I had a large hiatus which was causing my reflux but no hiatal hernia or sliding hiatal hernia. Does anyone know if medicine can cure a hiatus?

Has anyone had luck with natural medicine?

I really am wondering if a hiatus can really be "cured". I'm not talking about treating the symptoms. I'm talking about a cure that will actually make the hiatus smaller.

I suspect that there really is no natural cure for a larger than usual hole in your diaphragm but I see so much conflicting information on the internet.

No, it can't. There is no natural cure for a tear in the diaphragm. You'll find wacko-quacko stuff, but believe your gastroenterologist.

I wonder if the stomach just didn't come up through the hole on during the test. Do you ever have chest pain after eating? Not just heartburn.

If not, you must have a loose lower esophageal sphincter (LES), which allows stomach contents to come up into the esophagus. If you take meds (see your doc) to keep the acid under control (depending on if it's all day or just at night), you may be able to keep damage to a minimum.

What does your medical doctor recommend?

Many hiatal hernias aren't caught until you're in the operating room because they aren't always picked up by endoscopy. The hiatus in your diaphragm is a natural opening that allows the esophagus to pass through the diaphragm muscle to your stomach. In some people, this hole is too large, which allows the stomach to slip up above the diaphragm or keeps the esophageal sphincter from closing properly, which leads to reflux of stomach acid. Basically, this is a physical defect. Now you wouldn't expect to be able to grow your finger back together after half chopping it off, right? Same deal here. It simply will not grow back to a tighter closure. For most people, this doesn't matter and never becomes an issue. But for people with reflux it's a potential cause for their symptoms, which is why it is often repaired in surgery.
