Hi JAM,A looser wrap does not necessarily mean more reflux. If it is done properly, it stops reflux as well as a tighter/smaller bougie. A wrap is more of a flap than a valve, and the looser wrap is done to avoid the bloating and swallowing issues created by a tighter/smaller bougie wrap. Bill, one of our moderators, had a loose wrap and has absolutely no problem with reflux.
How much experience in Nissen surgeries did your surgeon have? If you have had yours done by a highly experienced Nissen surgeon, I'd lean toward your problems more likely being caused by healing issues rather than your looser wrap.
Often people with swallowing issues have very loose wraps and still get excellent results.
Yes, there can be reflux during recovery, but this doesn't mean that it will always cause your problems.
Can you get some reflux after surgery and healing? Of course. But it's much less frequent and less severe than prior to surgery. To make the wrap tight enough to achieve zero reflux you'd need to be tube fed, as it wouldn't allow food into the stomach.
Sorry you're struggling with this recovery.
Very best wishes,
Denise
