sour taste.. from generated saliva, or refluxate?

Hi all, I've been diagnosed with GERD but never have heartburn. My main symptom off meds was a very tight throat, and lots of swallowing. Whether I am taking PPIs or ranitidine, I have a sour taste in my mouth, constantly except when eating or drinking, but my throat is much less tight and I am swallowing much less so the acid blockers do help somewhat.

I've tried to pay close attention to the sour taste and when it starts. When I am eating, it's not noticeable. about 10-15 minutes after finishing eating, I get the perception that my mouth/body is generating some sour saliva. Closer to 30+ minutes after eating, I start getting more of an acid bitter taste.

Quite a while after eating, it's hard to tell the properties of the saliva in my mouth. But I seem to be producing excess saliva, and when I swallow it down, I notice it's almost immediately replenished and there is that sour taste again. So I am wondering if the saliva itself is generated with a sour taste, or if it just quickly absorbs whatever sour refluxate is there and takes on the sour taste.

Hi Kitt- I have had many tests related to my reflux, and I know that refluxed material itself has a sour taste. I was more wondering if people ever had the perception that the excess saliva their mouths produce has its own slightly bitter taste to it as well. As I noted, after I swallow the saliva, more is generated and it instantly has the sour taste, as if it was itself composed of something which has a sour taste (though less acidic taste than typical reflux).

Maybe it's an unusual perception or I'm splitting hairs on the slight taste difference between reflux and the generated saliva. I have read that reflux can lead to excess salivation, so I was guessing maybe the body is generating saliva composed of something more alkaline than regular saliva, causing its own type of sour taste, in order to combat the acidic (or weakly acidic) material making its way up the esophagus. My GI doctor did say, when I brought up that I had a sour taste, that the sour taste was coming from my body creating an alkaline substance to combat acid -- he never mentioned the more obvious fact that the reflux itself has a sour taste. But so far, I have not read anywhere (unless I missed it which is very possible) that the excess saliva is more alkaline and has its own odd taste. All I read is that sour taste is from the refluxed material itself, and not the composition of the generated saliva.
