This is the first time I have posted on this particular forum. I had a CT scan of my lungs a few months ago which showed a large hiatal hernia. I was in the hospital with a possible heart attack but when they found that, and all my other tests were fine, it was decided the chest pain was caused by the hh. I had been on Prilosec because of acid reflux that I thought was medication related. I have RA. My GP was not interested much in the hh diagnosis, just keep taking the Prilosec and if I wanted to I could have an endoscopy to check my esophagus. I didn't see the use as I was having too much trouble with the acid coming up, just rarely. But yesterday morning I had the chest pain and took a Pepsid Complete and just laid there and waited it out. But last night I had what was the worst acid reflux attack I have ever had. I was having to spit up phlegm and my throat felt like it was on fire. I took a pepsid complete but it didn't help. Drinking water didn't help. What should I do when this happens?
I take 40 mg prilosec at lunch and then a generic acid reducer at bedtime. I keep the Pepsid Complete for emergencies, so I am on medication. Should I have something like Maalox available for when this happens? Should I see my doctor to look further into what this hh is doing and should I have the endo?
I was going along just fine until last night and now I am worried it is really causing problems.
