Hi everyone! I'm new to this board. I've been posting in the ulcerative colitis board for the last few weeks, and then yesterday I found out that I don't actually have UC. Whoops! I went to get a second opinion, and my new GI is focusing on my GERD.
I've actually probably had GERD since I was a kid (I remember having morning nausea when I was six, and my doc prescribed Coke to settle my stomach). Over the years I've had bouts of it on and off, but I always ignored it or, at most, took Pepto for it. My endoscopy yesterday revealed esophagitis, so I started Aciphex 20mg yesterday.
In researching Aciphex, I noticed that it can interfere with iron absorption. I've been on iron supplements for over 20 years, so it's really important to me that I get my iron. I'm already timing my iron and calcium for different times of day. I've read that some people take their PPI an hour or two before or after their iron.
My doctor told me I could eat whatever I want, but I've dropped 20lbs in two months with the GERD, and I'm going to reintroduce foods cautiously. I had turned to the Specific Carb Diet for ulcerative colitis patients because that's what I thought I had, but now I'm going to look into GERD-specific dietary guidelines.
