Could Endoscopy Damage Wrap?

Decide to get an endoscopy, or decide to get a wrap?

The gastro performing the endoscopy should be aware of your surgical history. It is highly unlikely, with that knowledge, that the endoscopy itself would harm the wrap. In fact, the fundoplication itself is usually followed by an endoscopy (while you are still unconscious) to confirm no bleeding in the GI tract.

I've been scoped several times since my original wrap. Just by aware that it is very difficult for a gastro to tell what's going on down there from the inside. When my stomach was at >50% herniation (before 2nd Nissen), the endoscopy only revealed a "defect." The gastro was unable to confirm the hernia by endoscopy alone. Even with barium swallow and contrast CT, nobody knew how herniated I was until the surgeon got in there.

A skilled Nissen surgeon did my endoscopy 2 years post-op.  Like you, I was worried.  I was put out, even though I requested less sedation, and when I came to it was over and I was no worse for wear.  As long as it's a GI doc who's used to working around wraps, it won't be any problem.
