Hi All,
Still desperately searching for answers at home and at this site. I have been suffering quite badly with reflux type symptoms and would love some suggetions on how I might go about seeking out the source.
Firstly, my symptoms are not exacerbated by laying flat. I feel almost normal every morning until late morning, with pain escalating after lunch and becoming more unbearable by dinner time. I feel some relief whilst eating dinner although meal portion has decreased due to some bloating and a sensation of needing to burp throughout the meal. (not much success with burping) I go to bed and the symptoms seem to decrease somewhat whilst I am awake. I wake up occasionally with slight burning but am almost always symptom free in the morning whilst in bed.
I eat cereal, yoghurt and banana for breakfast every morning. Soup and crackers, or a cheese sandwich for lunch. Dinner is usually mash potato with gas free vegies and steamed fish or chicken. Sometimes pasta.
I tried mylanta, zantac (dissolvable) nexium 40mg morn, nexium 20mg bd and slippery elm (although I will continue with the elm). No relief. My GP has recommended that I take zinc and B6 to assist with digestion.
I still have a swallowing problem, and still have a tight crural repair. I am now seriously considering, that all of this pain is being caused by external friction of my esophagus rubbing on the repair/mesh, as my swallowing would decrease hugely whilst in a state of slumber which may explain overnight relief.
I am in the midst of seeking help elsewhere with the assistance of my GP, but she warns that it may be difficult to find a surgeon that will look into what the other guy has done, so any help from you fine people out there in the mean time who have had there fair share of gut problems would really be helpful.
I would love to hear any suggestions on how I can eliminate potential triggers in order to get to the bottom of where this problem actually lies... eg: should I perhaps fast? My reflux was managed quite well before I had the surgery and PPI's just don't cut it anymore. I have ceased the Nexium now and do not take any other meds other than a D supp 3rd daily.
Please, I would be ever so grateful for any help.
Thanks Buzz.
