Is Intestinal metaplasia the same as Barretts??

I am on week 8 of my LAP NISSEN surgery. I have had no complications, I haven't been able to hook up with my surgeon. Today I visited my family practice doctor, I asked about my Barretts condition and the explanation was complicated. He did not know if I have Barretts. My lab results from an endoscopy state positive for intestinal metaplasia(IM), negative for dysplasia. Does anyone know if IM is the same thing as Barretts? Thanks.

I finally get to see my surgeon after 8 weeks post surgery. I had my Lap nissen done at a Navy hospital. I am getting a referral to a civilian Gastro. Five years ago I had an endoscopy and never got the lab results, never knew there was lab involved. Last year my wife had an endoscopy done, during her debrief they stated all was well, I could not believe it. I asked the nurse if they had found HPYLORI, she stated that we would get lab results in a week. This was the first time I had heard of labs for endoscopy, I thought they would just look into your stomach and that was it. Anyways, we never got a call, but her stomach was screwed up, so I started calling, week two finally get the right person on the phone, she tells me that if we did not get a call, everything was ok, I did not buy it. I insisted that someone look at the lab results, finally someone looked at them and she was positive for HPYLORI. Abnormal results and we would have never gotten the results just like it happened to me 5 years ago!!!! Well, Today I have Barretts, however, leaving this hospital to seek better treatment somewhere else.
