TMI, but anyone have/get yellow, light stools with PPI's?

I know this is way TMI but I recently noticed my stool is a tan/yellow color.  It is freaking me out (as does anything else out of the ordinary).  I don't really have any pain but only the usual acid reflux issues of hearburn, some bloating after eating, throat irritation, clearing of throat.  Sometimes my back hurts.  I'm seeing my GP this afternoon so I will be sure to tell her.  I even wanted to take a photo to show her but I didn't have my phone.  I just started taking Prevacid (15mg) a week ago and I am pretty certain it only started recently.  Thanks for listening to a crazy person. smilewinkgrin

Interesting! No I don't get colored poo from PPI's, but I do get constipated.

This is usually from food passing through your system faster than normal. This can be caused by a lot of things including GERD inself, PPIs, IBS, what you ate, etc. Nothing to get worried about. I've had this off and on for over 25 years.

If you have blood in your stoolyou should definitely talk to your doctor about that immediately.

I noticed a change in the color when I went on PPI's it did look a lighter tan. It also depends on the food you eat as well. This suggests a cardboard color...

Whatever you do if you ever have a colonoscopy don't eat red jello before hand during the prep, that will freak you out! I did by mistake, luckily called the GI office and had enough time to get it cleaned out before actually having it done.

Thanks all.  It was a little darker today (not much but more on the tan/light brown side).  I stopped taking Tums because I read that could change your stool color too.  I haven't been eating much at all as well, for fear of the pain, so maybe that could be a contributing factor.  IDK.....I hate worrying so much. I think that's half my battle because I worry and make myself sick!

I had the same thing while on Dexilant (basically the same as prevacid). I dont know if its related, but I ended up getting pretty nasty IBS for a while after. When I stopped taking the Dexilant and about 5-6 months later the IBS went away.

Hi danny_blues,

From what I've read, yellow stools can be related to gallbladder issues.  Check out the article links above for more information. When people have GI symptoms, there are sometimes missed symptoms of gallbladder disease.  Just a thought.

My CT Scan and ultrasound shows my Gallbladder: Unremarkable. Can still be gallbladder issue ?

Hi Danny,

My husband has gallbladder attacks whenever he eats fatty foods, and his test turned out just fine.  I wonder if it has to be done during an attack to discover anything!  That's what my husband thinks.

I remember a situation where a doc husband of my friend got a surgeon to take out someone's gallbladder (even though it had been judged healthy by all tests) and indeed, it was diseased.

I guess problems can be missed...
