Hello everyone.
I am new to this forum and truly feel the pain we all share. I am newly diagnosed with silent gerd which has caused some erosion to the lower esophaguas (pre-Barrets). GI doc has put me on 60mg of Dexilant 1x day (Prilosec did nothing for my upper abdominal pain) with the hope of reducing the stomach acids and to heal the erosion (I hope and pray). I'm also on GERD Diet and am gluten free. I didn't know I had any reflux issues because I did not have the common symptoms of lump in throat feeling, gurgling up throat, or heartburn issues. Only pain, more like a stitch, under the sternum, which would come and go. Now it is here all the time.
Sorry for the long post but I think I'm losing my mind because I feel that I am getting sicker on the medication. The first 10 days the Dexilant seemed to be doing the trick, no more pain!! However, at the 2nd week mark I started noticing horrific rumbling and gurgling sounds coming from my gut. They were so loud my husband could hear the noises from the other room. I never had any sounds or gurgling before I was on this medication. Doc says up to 3 weeks to start working. I'm at 3 weeks now, and am so sick. The pain is worse in my upper ab area and the gurgling is so loud that I am up all night long. I called the Pharmacist and he said the gut sounds are because the medicine is working by changing the acid levels in my gut.
Does anyone know how long this will take, and if this is really normal. I have called my GI. Worthless! They told me not to drink coffee or tea, stay on acid free diet, and call GP to get antidepressants!! Of course, I'm upset because I'm miserable and feel horrible, and I know this is a vicious circle because stress does affect my gut. I can't eat. I can't sleep. I'm miserable. Does anyone have any negative side effects from the Dexilant or any other PPI's that are unusual. I am getting hip and leg cramps also. I NEVER HAD THIS BEFORE but the GI tells me to stay on the meds.
Anyone?? Help, please with suggestions. Thank you for reading this.
