If a patient has a small (like 1cm) hiatal hernia, what exactly is done with it during a fundoplication?
I understand with large hernias, sometimes it's necessary to close the hole in the diaphragm in order to prevent the stomach from moving up there. But with a small hernia, does anything need to be done, or does the mere act of doing the wrap/fundoplication essentially "fix" the hernia by moving the upper part of the stomach?
