Hi greatunclebill,Really, 7 inches is pretty perfect. Mine is set at 8. Yes, it takes some adjustment to sleeping that way, and you may have to readjust back up the hill occasionally, but it's the ideal pitch. I've been sleeping that way for probably 15 years, and even my poor husband doesn't complain. You definitely get used to it.
It will make sleeping much more comfortable in the long run, and you'll find sleeping flat becomes very strange. That wedge will be a great thing to take with you when you're traveling, though.
Wish I had better news. I know some do fine with a smaller slope, but to really get the best results, that is the angle you're going to want. Tell the doggies that maybe it's time to head to the floor! Our grandson loves rolling down our bed!
That's my opinion on the subject! I had the Nissen in '09, but I have asthma, and am keeping the elevation just to be on the safe side. A Nissen doesn't take reflux to zero, or I couldn't swallow food. Since my lungs are very sensitive, I'm fine with continuing with the elevated head-of-bed. It does create questions when I show people around our house...it's quite the conversation starter!
Good luck!
Denise
