Gerd = chest tightness and shortness of breath. Is that normal?

Does anyone else get heart palps, shortness of breath and chest tightness from gerd. I've done every heart test there is and they have all come out fine. (I'm only a 21 year old male) I took a PFT and it wasn't the best. Although I did eat before it. I was given a peak flow meter that I blow in to see if my asthma is acting up. But surprisingly when I get the symptoms and blow I always blow in the 550-650 range which is good. Is this normal? And if so what are some thing that will help with the gerd. I was given nexium but refused to take it because the other meds (Prilosec OTC) I was given gave me bad heart palps. Anything would help as I'm not getting any sleep from the breathing setting off anxiety. Thanks

sorry to hear this. With my GERD/LPR I tend to get chest pressure along the sternum--it is quite noticeable to me and it worsens over the course of the day (best upon waking up). I too did every possible heart test and all were perfect, so it does seem in my case, it is GI related. Sometimes I will also feel slightly short of breath, but I think this is mostly due to worry. I also suffer from PVC (palps)--one doctor told me that it could be vagus nerve irritation which is implicated in breathing, heart and GI issues. My palps were documented on a holter monitor, but not on the stress test or ekgs.

Have you had any GI tests yet or seen a GI? That might be the next logical step--tell them about the normal cardiac workup and see what they say.

I to have PVC's. I went to a GI about 8 months ago and had H.Pylori. I'm I took the prev pack which was horrible. Ever since then my health has declined drastically. I'm going to change my lifestyle as far as food. I've noticed eating late ( which I love) is why I wake up out of breath.
