I brought up surgery to the first doctor I saw about this issue (an internist). He laughed and told me he'd rather send me to the hospital for a triple bypass.
First off, ignore what he said - he obviously is a moron! Nissen and/or LINX are not the same as a triple bypass! Why would he try to terrify you like that?!
I too was told that if I took medicine it would go away. When it didn't, but helped about
40% of the issue they said that was basically good enough and I'd take medicine for the rest of my life. I'm 30. They also said you can't take it while pregnant, so maybe I don't need kids. ***?! Some doctors are morons, realize that and move onto a more caring one! My 3rd doctor was the one that helped me.
I tried everything, obscene amounts of medicine, drastic diet change, elevated bed, homeopathic, you name it and I tried it. (Best thing that did help was taking shots of Aloe Vera Juice, fyi - try that in the mean time).
I had LINX and it's so far changed my life. I haven't had ANY heartburn since the surgery on 1/15/13. I've ate the trigger foods and tried to get heartburn and I still haven't. Granted, not everyone has fantastic results with surgeries but so far I have. I'm only about
a month in, but am ecstatic so far. When I was going through the hell you are I finally realized that surgery was the best option. I didn't get to that decision easily though. Heartburn took over my life entirely so I knew I had to fix it. I debated between Nissen and LINX. Both are apparently great surgeries. I weighed out my options and LINX was the best idea for me. Luckily I qualified for it (both physically and with insurance).
Looking back now, I'm so glad I did this and can't believe I didn't do it sooner. Yes surgery is scary but in my case it was worth it. Just a couple weeks of recovery and I feel like I have my life back! I feel like a broken record praising LINX and I hope I'm not annoying to anyone. It has just changed my life so much that I can't help but to talk about
it.
I wish you luck. I just don't want you to be scared of surgery and what that guy said!!!!
