Hi stressedteacher,
Welcome to Healing Well! I'm a non-stressed retired teacher, but I certainly understand your choice of usernames! The symptoms you're describing are typical reflux symptoms, so they don't related to Barrett's in any specific way. I'm sure your GI doc will have a lot more info when you're scoped on Tuesday.
It sounds like your PPIs aren't doing the whole job. Like you, I had breakthrough reflux even on top dose PPIs. I ended up getting a Nissen fundoplication surgery in February 2009, and have had great results. My main symptom was atypical--lung issues. I have asthma that was made uncontrollable by my reflux, even while I was on 40mg Protonix before breakfast and 40mg before dinner. On top of that I was on 300mg Ranitidine at bedtime. Still didn't work.
I know what you mean about not being able to draw a line between reflux and allergy symptoms. They definitely overlap, and even ENTs find it challenging, unless the reflux is extremely severe.
Good luck with your endoscopy on Tuesday! Let us know how it goes.
Glad you've joined us!
Best wishes,
Denise
