My 77 year old father has just been diagnosed with nutcracker esophagus. His symptons are spasms, severe pain and problems swallowing both foods and liquids. Well it's not actually the swallowing itself, but to get the things he swallow to pass to his stomach. He has spent the past four weeks, since it all started, in and out of hospital with several examinations before they came to a diagnosis.
Physicians seem to know very little about this desease and how to treat it. The idea seems to be to try different medications to find what reduces the symptoms. Until then he's supposed to eat and drink what he can, when he can and take medication for pain relief.
I'm posting this with the hope to get in touch with people with some kind of experience from the desease, who might have advice on how to make his life as comfortable as possible, with as little symptoms as possible. Tips and tricks to reduce the spasms and pains, and thereby be able to eat and drink as normal as possible.
I'm also planning to start a group on facebook, with the hope to get in touch with people with some kind of experience.
All the best from Sweden.
