Roah,
Take a look at this link and quote
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-magnesium-deficiency-symptoms.htm
"In terms of physical symptoms of magnesium deficiency, there is a good chance that a person with inadequate levels of magnesium will experience a wide range of aches and pains. Cramps in the legs are often present, along with a sense of stiffness in the neck. Symptoms of magnesium deficiency may also include pain in the jaw that seems to appear for no reason. Tension headaches may become more frequent. In some people, a feeling of tightness in the chest will be one magnesium deficiency symptom, although this particular sign may come and go."

Maybe it is not really your teeth but jaw? Hmmmmmm.
Chris,
Unfortunately i haven't tried gaviscon, yet.
It is my last resort :) , back up plan, because i am now done with all the drug. Scary huh? Haha
But since gaviscon forms some sort of barrier so that acid won't come up it will help if you feel uncomfortable at your esophagus area. It will prevent acid thus help healing but won't heal it directly, as you might know already.
They say esophagus is amazingly flexible(enough so some people won't notice even when they do have real lump there) so i doubt pills themselves hurt that bad.(though i admit i hate to swallow anything too!) It probably is still sensitive from irritation you had but not compelelty healed. Esophagus is not supposed to be exposed to the acid 'at all' so it is very sensitive to 'any' acid.
Btw, Have you tried to humidify your bedroom? You may try to sooth it directly that way. Hang some wet towels when you go to bed. I know you are not LPR but when you breath both of the pipes get affected, you know. I don't know, it seemed to help me at night. Breathing easy, keep your pipes moist.
Try gaviscon. it seems satisfactin rate is pretty high. Let me know how it taste! Lol
Good luck.
