Throat problems after Endoscopy

Hi All,

I went through an endoscopy on 8thFebruary 2013. The same day after procedure I felt pain in throat. It didn't stop but continued as sore throat, difficulty swallowing, voice changes, swollen throat and even pinching feeling in throat, difficulty speaking. It's been nearly 2 months. But no improvement . Has anybody gone through all this and what is the possible treatment ? Can it get normal again? Plz share ur experiences.

I had an endoscopy in February as well. I had sore throat for less than a week only. If you are still experiencing pain, then that's not normal. I would let your GI person know. You might have some kind of infection or developed a virus.

I had an endoscopy in March and had a sore throat for about 2 days afterwards. It was really sore the day I had it done. However don't think it's normal for it to last as long as 2 months so I would go and have this checked out.

Oh my goodness, yes I started getting weird symptoms after my last endoscopy as well which was 3 weeks ago, I read somewhere sometimes that repeated endoscopies can give you LPR which is silent reflux, I think you might be going through that, I had sore throat for about a week now and cold for week giving another week before I see an ENT and maybe get a 24 done.

You should definitely go get that checked out sounds serious. feel better :)

When I had mine done I had a sore throat for a few days or so, it could also be worsening symptoms.
I know a year ago I could tolerate my gerd and work through it, but now I can't stand it.

Interesting that you would bring up that repeated endo's could cause lpr symptoms. I've always struggled with gerd symptoms but never had lpr (lump in throat) symptoms until after several endo's and a 24 hr ph study. I always felt my throat was never the same after the 24 hr ph study. I'm starting to believe the probe caused damaged to my UES.

DOGG: Yeah I have a lot of different symptoms since i been on the ppi and the endoscopies I had 3 done within 5 month period so can you believe the damage that has been done to my LES? I want to do the 24 hr study but I am scared of having more side effects. Right now my symptoms are very mild but I am going manage it by changing my diet and keeping a food journal I read this book called dropping the acid by Dr. Kaufman who is suppose to be worldly renowned expert on LPR, I am going to follow her induction diet and see if my symptoms subside if they do, it is proven I have LPR and it is all about life changes but if not than I shall make an appointment with my ent for further questions.

What are you experiencing now? MY symptoms are really odd chest pain or more like pressure around my upper body, and some type of thing in my throat but it disappears and comes according to the book the lump is suppose to disappear when you eat and is there when you do not eat, now if you have something like this it is defiently LPR but Lpr is such tricky disease you can not pin it down, I got the heartburn after getting off the PPI I get it sometime or for my case lately all the time, so I think to begin with i must had LPR because I remember getting soar mouth all the time. it can just start with that. Its annoying self diagnosing yourself but yeah. I think our cases our gerd became wrose after the repeated tubes going own our throats.

Hi,
I am new to the site. I am pretty certain i have gerd. severe heartburn up through esophagus and tongue. it all burns on fire 1 - 2 hours after i eat, and lasts for hours. Dr put me on 40 mg nexium 4.5 weeks ago - no relief yet. I am so scared because i am in constant pain was hoping the nexium would work. I am also on carafate 4 times a day and eat gaviscon like candy. None of it helps for long.

Should the nexium have started working by now? Dr wanted to double dosage to 40 mg 2 times a day, but im worried about getting off of it. i have lost 20 pounds. I was 119 lbs now im under 100.

Is this a symptom also? i had an endoscopy on 12/1/13 for gastritis which was mild. then on February 20th had acid or bile shoot up my throat for no reason. never had reflux or burning before.

One last thing - after my endocsopy on 12/1/13 i had burning in stomach which was never there before, and then this February, out of the blue had acid come up throat and have burned ever since.

i would welcome any feedback or suggestions... I am very worried.
