Gerd for over 10 years and consider the nissen fundoplication surgery

Hi everyone,

I've been fighting these GERD symptom for over 10 years.  I really want to have it cure as soon as possible.  There are a few question.

1. I'm in northern California and insured with Kaiser permanente.  I think if I want to have the surgery done, I need to have it with Kaiser doctor only.  Do you know any good doctor in my area?

2. I've been reading many success and fail surgery cases.  I'm so worry about the care procedures after the surgery.  Do you have any more info or links that I can read to familiarize my self.

Welcome to Healing Well.

If you look though the site you will see some ongoing posts right now about the nissen success and possible failures.
If you are needing doctor info make sure they have done over a 100 successfully and ask what their redo rate is. Ask what tests they like to have done before doing surgery, such as manometry, ph study, EGD, barium swallow, etc. It might be a good Idea to talk with the surgical floor nurses at the hospital to see what their views are of the surgeons and this surgery. Believe me the nurses definitely know what is going on there.

thank you for the reply.  Since I'm insured with Kaiser.  I kind of obligate to have a surgery done with their internal doctor.  So I don't have much choice.  However, if I can choose then I would go for a more well known doctor. Who has done the procedure daily or weekly so I know I'm in good hand.  Do you guy have any list of doctors that you recommend?
