Protonix and THC

So I had a medical exam recently and it showed I had THC in my system, I initially thought they were joking when they told me. Anyways, I haven't smoked ever and don't associate with people who smoke because I'm against it. Anyways, I'm on a long list of drugs right now can anyone of them explain why I'm showing a false positive?

Just called up the nurse who prescribed me protonix and she said that half the world would show up as having THC in there system if protonix was the reason for my false positive. I'm suspecting that it's protonix, but I haven't had any conformations by doctors yet.

Wow, that's a new one on me!  I've taken Protonix since I was hospitalized for GERD induced asthma about 8 or 9 years ago.  I did a little searching and came up with some links:

It even says the manufacturers of Protonix provide a warning, and say that you should always bring your prescription bottle with you if you're having an employment physical that includes a drug test!

Called the Nurse at the GI department of UW-health and she told me that it shouldn't. Also, I got a call back a local nurse at clinic in Menasha, WI. She said she would talk to the doctor and that there was no way it could come up as a false positive and that everything I'm reading on the internet is wrong.

I Have been to that clinic numerous times and have been told false information similar to this and that I was wrong. Hence, why I don't go there anymore. I'm currently working with UW-Health.

Here's a link to an FDA document that says it can cause false positive results.  Do you think that's official enough for them?

7.5 False Positive Urine Tests for THC

There have been reports of false positive urine screening tests for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in patients receiving proton pump inhibitors. An alternative confirmatory method should be considered to verify positive results.

This doesn't excuse that Dr in the ER lastnight that told me the reason I couldn't sleep was because I was doing to much Marijuana, which is causing my insomnia! He obviously doesn't know anything about LPR and breathing issues related to it.

I couldn't sleep lastnight because my neck was tight, I have VCD and couldn't get air in fast enough. My vital signs where fine... Well duh! I can breathe, it's just super tight and inflamed! He insisted on telling me that my breathing is fine and that I'm on drugs, which is the reason I couldn't sleep. I told him over and over that, I didn't have any exposure to weed in the last 30 days. I will testify in court on my behalf. I'm going into law enforcement and I found that to be quite insulting. I definitely know how it feels to have all the tables turned on myself for a change...

What really pisses me off is that he sent me home with a marijuana abuse pamphlet...

found this topic interesting as I am up for a new job at Honda as a Programmer Engineer. I have GERDs as well as Esophagitis, Gastritis, Ulcers, Barrett's Esophagus, and 4 years ago had surgery to remove benign polyps in my stomach. So throughout the years I have been taking a various of medication for this. This is part of my 80% Disability rating from my Veteran Disability. I have been prescribed Omeprazole, Pantoprazole and Zegarid. I am currently on daily doses of Omeprazole from my VA doctor. From two other local clinic doctors I use mainly for prescriptions, one has me on Pantoprazole and the other on Zegarid.

In my drug screening they said I have THC. And I took all my meds to the nurses doing my physical yet they tell me that none of these meds would create a false positive. They sent it off to LabCorp. I took them for their word and became very worried. Before I left the office my Ulcers had already started killing me I was so worried. When I got home I did some serious research and found that the very same medication I was taking and that the nurses said did not cause any false positives were in fact some of the worst meds you can take for a drug screening!

But then I thought ok, maybe at LabCorp they can see the difference and see that I do not have THC just my meds, but then i see online about so many mixed reviews about the methods they use. I hear from some that the GDMS machine is supposed to be very accurate but then I hear from others that the machine is still known to give false positives in these instances. I don't know what to do or where to turn. I need to know, this is my life at stake here! I have worked too hard and went too far for my career to end like this! I apologize for the lengthy post but I am very desperate for some understanding and options here. And Thank you for any information you can give!

I have a question about this GC/MS test. Someone else told me that they may still see THC on these tests but because they know what Meds I am using they will still call it a false positive. But I thought that with this test they should find NO THC and only my Meds. How does it work! Will they find THC even though I have not used marijuana but just deem it a false positive because of my MEDS. Or will they not find any THC at all. Because I also read that we all have some THC inside of us even if we don't smoke but only a little that will not register?

You probably saw this on the thread, but you can bring this document with you.  Also, as Bill said, bring along your prescription bottles, just in case.  Apparently, false positives can occur when on PPIs.

Good news! Congrats!

Wow Terlin, this post is have really attracted me twice. First for the Protonix and THC and now about Ear problems? After reading your post I did some searches and see that a lot of people with GERDs and Acid Reflux are having Ear problems. I have been having issues with my ears for a while now and I never associated it with GERDs. Well now I have something else to talk to my doctor about!
