Hello all. I've reached the point now where even my PCP is recommending I have the Nissin, and, to say the least, I'm anxious about
the whole thing. Basic/medical background is:
-46 y.o white female
--5'2, 225 (so, obese, BMI likely 35ish)
-GERD of phenomenal proportions for 20+ years
--currently take 40 mg Prilosec 2x daily
-aware of hiatal hernia for 20+ yrs, now at moderately lrge size
-diagnosed w/ IBS-D in 2001
-intermittent SEVERE iron deficiency anemia, likely due to PPI use (seem to absorb NO dietary iron)
--tx for this is infused IV iron, every 1-2 years (reguires bloodwork ev. 3 months, minimum)
-OA of knees, ankles, hips, hands/fingers, shoulders, possibly lower spine as well
-mild ob. sleep apnea, snoring worse
-current meds: omeprazole, Cymbalta (anxiety/depr.), Mobic (OA), Plaquinel, Claritin, as well as krill oil, glucosamine/MSM/HLA, Acidophilus daily, as well as bi-annual Euflexxa injections in knees for the OA (taken PRN, also have Vicodin, Roxicodone, Voltaren gel, bentyl, Flexeril, Robaxin, trazadone, Ambien (both for sleep)
There's no doubt in my mind that ALL my major health issues would be relieved at least somewhat by weight loss, but I've been unsuccessful for a variety of reasons. Menopause currently is just magnifying my frustration. At the behest of my ortho and PT (well, really, everyone!!), I've begun to attempt exercise again.
I'm now up to 45 min. on a recumbent bike, and 20-30 minutes throwing a medicine ball. I'm continually working to slowly increase the speed and resistance on the bike, and the wt of the ball. Things are going pretty well so far.
I'm actually liking the idea that everyone who's had the Nissin has reported substantial wt loss, due to liquid/soft diet.
Anyway, I'm concerned about recovery time causing me to lose all exercise progress, as well as recovery time and return to work. I have some really odd symptoms with my HH, so am concerned about gas/bloating/inability to burp or belch. Also the prospect of things being no better.
Any recent feedback, advice, and support would be welcome, especially anyone in Vermont who's had surgery recently, and perhaps could speak to local surgeons, etc. I have a GI doc, and have an appt. w/ a surgeon in a few weeks.
Thx
-C
