Does vomiting undo a nissen fundoplication?

Anyone help me please sad Its been 23 days since my surgery (nissen fundoplication. Ive tasted blood in my mouth and spat abit of blood it was mixed in with my saliva. Everything as been going smoothly but now im worying really bad.

Sorry to hear that you've been going through this degree trouble and worry. I wouldn't hesitate to contact my primary doctor or surgeon regarding what you've experienced recently. I had the NF procedure 6 weeks ago and I'm still experiencing various levels of discomfort and success as well, but nothing involving blood in my saliva. Put your worries into action and get the help you need. I know how vulnerable it feels to be recovering from this major surgery.

Hi I'm new here to this forum however I am seeking advice on how to deal with my Nissan operation I had when I was younger. I had the operation when I was less than 3 years old. However now I am 35 years old and belive experiencing completions. Just last week I threw up blood while eating. My stool has had blood in it also. Went to the hospital for three days and after a scope they told me it was gastrointestinal. However in the past five years the stomach bloating has gotten worse. Is there a possibility my nissan operation has failed it as a complete wrap I belive.

Welcome to the Forum! We aren't medical professionals here, but since you had your operation so many years ago, I would follow up with a gastro doctor. When they did the scope at the hospital, did they say the wrap was intact?

They said it was however I'm worried that they were not informed by how tight or it was done . The last five years the acid reflex has been worse so I belive it is loosening up or part of it may be missing

The Nissen won't prevent you from having gastritis. I would definitely follow-up with a gastro doctor, we can't give you the medical advice that you need. You may want to try a GERD-friendly diet to see if you can get the symptoms under control.

I am aware of that however it's been a long time since my nissan operation and I am wondering if it is possible it is coming undone. The last five years I have had worse acid reflex than normal. This is the worry I have. Is it not possible that it's becoming undone and caused the vomit of blood?

The endoscopy should have shown whether the wrap was coming undone. Did you tell the doctor about the blood, and what did he say? Of course it's possible that it's become loose, but again, you need to follow up with your gastro doctor and find out what's causing your vomiting of blood, the blood in your stool and your other stomach issues. I'm sorry the questions that your asking here can only be answered by your doctors.

thank you both for your reply. I mentioned that i could taste blood in my Saliva. I did find out the reason and because im a constant worrier. When it comes to my health. It was a cut gum from a cracked filling and every so often it would be bleed and thats why i had blood in my Saliva. Touch wood, not had it for a few days now. Other than that My recovery has been ok. I still get the odd ache frok time to time at the top of my stomach were they operated, under thw diagphram smile I'm week 10 now, I read on here it can take a whole year to heal. Ive read thats normal becausw of the size and complexity of the operation. The recovery is much different to my Kidney transplant 10 years ago but we all get stronger from these situations smile Thank you for your reply.

I've been getting short of breath the last few days. The strange thing is, I'm not getting it when exercising or normal day to day activities. I'm hoping it isn't related to the wrap or a new ulcer but then again. I don't get any symptoms of that but I do still check for slight blood mixed in with Saliva, I do occasionally get it still but it's not bright red blood or blood on it's own it's mixed with saliva. Then, I always check my gum and there is still that slight spec of blood under the tooth. It soon goes around the mouth and it gives the assumption of blood in saliva. Other than, I'm getting know symptoms of Acid-Reflux. My diet is back to normal. It's just the short of breath which is worrying me a little.

Other than consulting with your doctor regarding your symptoms I'd suggest using a spirometer to measure the strength of your inhalations. I was given one post surgery and told to use it at least 10 times per day to exercise my lungs and diaphragm. It may help you determine a trend with your ability to breath deeply.

I was perfectly fine until last week, then i started noticing it after a really severe bouts of hayfever and removing a carpet out the bedroom and cutting it up etc ready for the new one. I find it strange how this as came 4 months post-op and not before. I did have shortness of breath after my Dad passed away in 2014 aswell but it went back to normal.

Be patient is all I can recommend during the first year. Even at 19 weeks post surgery I have days that I don't feel well and have some various levels of discomfort. Mostly due to bloating. I feel I now have a normal response to allergens. I was very clear for the first couple months then in the spring I felt stuffed up. I'm sure an old carpet would put me into an allergen overload and the increased physical exertion might wear me out.

I just had a terrible episode of vomiting and I am 12 days post-op. I have been having terrible re-flux all day and all of a sudden I had terrible pain and the vomiting started. Should I call my surgeon? Should I be worried?

Yes, call your surgeon and tell him/them of your episode. Get some anti-nausea medication and rest. I was prescribed anti-nausea medications to prevent vomiting since it is a risk to the surgery. Worry won't do you any good. You need to act and get checked out.

Listen to Mark, call your surgeon for the anti-nausea medication. He should have prescribed it for you to have after your surgery. I'm three years post-surgery and always keep my prescription handy. I still have waves of nausea for no reason, but not very often.

I had my Nissen Fundoplication 7 and half months back. I've just been a little bit sick not alot a little bit as i had meat stuck but it went after that. Will someone tell me please if this will damage my wrap so long after the op. It would be greatly appreciated.

It's a total one off. It's the first time, I got anything stuck since the ooeration and maybe it was because i was rushing but It wasn't straining to be sick. It was a leave heave and it came out, Its got me worried :/

We aren't medical professionals and can't determine the condition of your wrap. One incident should not compromise the wrap, but you might want to contact your surgeon's office to discuss your concerns. If he suspects any damage he would order an endoscopy.

Okay I need advise. I had Severe acid reflux before Nissen fundo. It’s been two years since had a nexium or vomit. Well, I’m pregnant now and been extremely nauseous dry heaving mostly can’t throw up anything food just spit and stuff well the last two days have been worse and spit up bile. Today i felt great today was the first time for me to actually eat and have ... acid reflux....
do you think it came undone or is pregnancy just making it that bad and I’m getting a some acid reflux/heartburn feel... I’m terrified bc it’s been a nice while and boom acid is back. Again no food has came up. I just Hope i didn’t mess it up.
