Could someone explain to me the different surgeries

I've seen several different surgeries mentioned on this board......Nissen fundoplication, Linx, TIF (I think) and probably some others that I can't think of right now..

I'm wondering which ones are for which conditions ?

I have GERD, LPR, ulcers, and a large hiatus hernia. Right now everything is going well except for a bad cough that I have because of LPR and I'm trying different things to see if they will help.

All I know is my gastro told me to keep taking my PPI's because I definitely don't want to have surgery. I'm not sure if it's because of my age, I'm 64. I'm not sure which one he meant and I had no idea there were so many.

They all are basically for the same thing, but a different way of helping get the LES to function again.

The nissen is where the upper part of the stomach, fundus, is wrapped around the esophagus like a hot dog bun.

The linx is a device that goes around the esophagus and uses magnets I believe to apply pressure to help the LES.

The TIF is where they go down like an EGD with a special instrument and tightens the LES from inside. I am not sure if it's staples or sutures that they use though.

There are people here who have had or are researching the Linx and TIF and I am sure they will be along shortly to help. I have the nissen wrap and haven't researched the others very much.
