Short story:
I had been taking Nexium and Omeprazole daily since this time last year for chronic heartburn. In January I got an endoscopy and was officially diagnosed with GERD. Both doctors I had seen simply told me to cut down on the drinking, spicy food, fast food, eating before bed, ect. I came here after the diagnosis to ask a few basic questions and the users recommended me the Fast Tract to Digestion. I didn't check it out right away because it was a bit expensive for me.
So a few months passed and my doctor told me it was time to start weening off the PPIs, but no matter how well I thought I was eating, the heartburn would always return on the second day. With a year coming up and still being totally reliant on the PPIs I noticed Fast Tract was on sale and picked it up. My hope was that it would give me some type of leverage, no matter how small, to bring forth some change.
Lo and behold I began the low carb diet, took the PPIs for the first two days of it and then stopped. I didn't even go through a period of excessive heartburn from quitting the meds. I've been PPI free and heartburn free for 2 weeks now. It absolutely blows my mind that my family doctor and the specialist didn't mention anything about this type of diet, it was more effective than I ever could have imagined. If I never visited this forum there's no guarantee I would've discovered Fast Tract or gotten over the heartburn. I wanted to thank everyone here who continues to turn people on to this diet that apparently hasn't been accepted into the mainstream medical world yet. You kinda cured me.
And seriously, who needs carbs anyway?
