My GI said candida doesn't grow in acidic environments.
Could be wrong but that's what he said when I brought it up. So, if you have it you are probably more alkaline?????

Teacherman, so if you are reducing the acid production via PPI or H2 blockers, then wouldn't you be creating a less acidic environment in your intestines, thereby creating a potential for candida?

Yes, thats exactly the point. The acid blockers reduce the acidity of the stomach. In my case i had already had candida problems before and the acid blockers brought it back with an extreme vengeance. Im still trying to get it under control 3 weeks since stopping the protonix

I guess it depends what number is considered " an acidic environment"
An impedance test will tell you or at least give you a picture. For me, my acid levels are low. I didn't ask what number. I should have. But he said I wasn't even close to being considered so acidic that refluxing was dangerous to me. < I have barretts> He said I could eat more liberally and have a higher quality life. Now, are my acid levels too low. ??? It gets tricky thus the surgery sounds better everyday.
Everyone is different. I hope your candida goes away quickly.

Chris, i started getting candida in my 20's and didnt know what it was. Im 46 now. I was very sick with it until i started typing my symptoms into a search engine and it kept coming up with candida so i bought some books and joined a forum. It started with red bumps on my hips and in the skin folds especially under the armpit area. Mine went systemic for some reason which basically feels like the worst hangover you ever had. I got it under control with diet and cultured vegetables. Had it under control for 10 years, until the acid blockers brought it back. BAd
