Pre surgery interview

Yesterday, the hospital called me to conduct their pre-surgery personal/family history. I didn't realize that there are a lot of restrictions prior to surgery. For example, I'm not allowed take multiple vitamins. I also can't use deodorant right before surgery. I have to wipe-down my body with special wipes to help prevent MRSA. They are especially interested in my reaction to general anesthesia. I've never had general anesthesia, so I had no answer to give them. I assume these are typical pre-surgery restrictions?

Hi Ian,

Each hospital can have unique requirements. Four years ago I had no anti-MRSA wipes. I don't remember rules on multivitamins. The questions about general anesthesia are pretty standard. My guess is that they want you deodorant free in case they have to do some type of imaging should they have a problem. Deodorant can interfere.

Things are changing rapidly in the medical profession, and some of those requirements might just be standard everywhere at this time. I wouldn't know...

Demise is right about every hospital having different rules before surgery and so do different surgeons. I have read that some were required to use an anti bacteria soap the night before and the morning of surgery.
I am assuming the hospital may have had a mrsa issue in the past and have taken measures to help stop it. I have always been asked if I have ever had mrsa and had a nasal swab for it many times before surgery.

Sounds like fairly typical pre surgery questions to me.
