Since having my Nissen, I have noticed that a task as simple as brushing my teeth will trigger a gagging response. I wonder if this is an actual side-effect from the surgery or a psychological response. Any ideas?

Hmmmm, interesting.

I haven't noticed any difference after 3 nissens.

Hi,ive had that from I had my nissen done. I gag when brushing my teeth and even causes me to heave.Im having my nissen redone to a partial wrap because of problems.Hope im not worrying you about your own surgery. In my case its definitely not psychological. Barry

Hi Ian,

I don't gag any more now than I ever did.  It's still early in your recovery, so it'll likely resolve with all the other post-op healing issues.

I guess I'll just monitor this and see were it goes. It is true that I'm still in the early stages of a long-term full recovery.

I gagged quite a bit in the first few weeks. I have not had any issues at all though since. Hope it clears up!
