Hi Joanne,Welcome to the
Wrapped Club!
I'm so sorry to hear that you're having so many serious problems post op.
What testing did you have prior to your surgery? Did you have a manometry?
If you did, and it didn't show swallowing dismotility (problems moving food down the esophagus), that it seems to me the issue is a way too tight wrap. Foods are getting held back at the wrap site.
The wrap could also have been created incorrectly. Bill, a moderator here, had a wrap that was not created properly...I believe it was twisted and attached in the wrong way. He had a terrible time getting foods through the wrap.
Have you had a second opinion? I think it is overdue. Do some research. If you are in a big city, or near one, look into where you can find a surgeon who specializes in redo surgery. It is more difficult than the initial surgery, so you need someone who has many, many under his/her belt. I doesn't mean they'll recommend a redo, but you'll get a better idea of what needs to be done to fix your problem. It can be fixed.
Bill, the monitor I mentioned, had trouble getting a diagnosis on his first wrap, and they ended up going in to fix it simply because the symptoms were significant enough they figured there must have been a problem. Indeed, there was.
Hopefully, your testing will be more definitive. Please start looking for someone to help you with this. You've waited long enough. It is a long, and hard recovery--harder for some than others. Still, you should be able to swallow normal foods that are chewed thoroughly...you always need to chew, chew, chew until whatever you're eating is a liquid.
Also, be sure that what you've eaten has made it through the wrap before taking another bite. Bill found dipping whatever you swallow in a sauce first, can help. That was his mode of getting food past his first wrap.
Do NOT stick with your original surgeon's office. Get a completely different, skilled redo surgeon, to do your evaluation.
Hang in there! There is an answer to this. You just have to persevere.
Best wishes, and good luck,
Denise
