So my journey began in September of last year, 4 1/2 months ago. I went to my GI doc because I was feeling nauseated for a couple of days. He thought I might be having some gastric irritation and told me to take prilosec. Decided that I would be a "good" patient I started taking the stuff. My nausea disappeared pretty much immediately. After a few days I decided to stop taking the prilosec as I don't like to be on any medication unnecessarily. No more nausea, eating anything I want, until the following week when I developed a very sore throat. I thought I had strep. Tests negative, but the family physician told me I should resume prilosec in case it was reflux. Started prilosec but burn persisted. GI doc advised to take pepcid or zantac in addition. Wow, more meds! Not what I wanted to hear. I would get better, but as soon as I tried to stop, the burn returned with a vengeance. This went on until about
Christmas. Again I tried to wean off the PPI (I was on Nexium now) but continued taking pepcid ac at night. Christmas day I was eating and drinking anything I wanted without any problems. New Year's Eve, that familiar burn returned and won't let up. I am now scheduled for manometry and 24 hour pH study next week. What's crazy is the burning will start after eating something as simple as a bowl of cereal, but won't be as bad after eating pasta with tomato sauce !!!!! Go figure! My family doctor thinks it might just be allergies, and told me to start using Flonase and taking Claritin. I am eager, no make that desperate, to get some answers. I keep worrying that if this is in fact reflux, this burn will in fact burn my delicate esophageal lining!!! Although when they look in my throat, they say it does;t look bad at all. ANYONE OUT THERE EXPERIENCED/EXPERIENCING SIMILAR PROBLEM???? HELP!!!!
