Sleepless and Inflamed Tongue...Looking for suggestions

Please help,im having sleepless nights because of Gerd.Both sides of my tonque are inflamed.doctor advised me to take doxycyclin but the more it gets swollen....my mouth always dry..

Hi GERDGERD,

Welcome to Healing Well! Sorry to hear you're struggling at night. Have you tried elevating the head of the bed 7-8 inches? You can use bricks or boards or bed risers. It can help keep the acid in your stomach by employing gravity. Also, make sure you finish eating at LEAST 3 hours before going to bed.

Have you seen a GI doctor? What medications are you taking for your reflux? I wonder if the doxycycline is causing your stomach to be inflamed and produce more acid. I have a lot of trouble taking antibiotics, and before my GERD surgery, always got gastritis and esophagitis when taking them. Now they just irritate my stomach, but leave my esophagus alone.

Hopefully others will be by soon to say hi and offer support and suggestions.

Thanks for the response Denise.my doctor is an ent.i am taking dexilant for 1 and a half months now.just today i noticed my tonques middle part color is changing to dark brown.i stopped taking doxicon.i will visit my doctor today...does anyone have or had cases like mine? i just want to know if its connected to acid reflux or a different illness..thank you

wento to my doctor today and he said its a tonque ulcer...its related to gerd.

Hi GERDGERD,

Ouch!

I hope you can get it healed soon! If you're getting enough reflux to cause an ulcer on your tongue, it sounds like it might be time to see a GI doctor. Feel better soon! Good luck!
