I've been having issues for awhile now, sharp chest pains and trouble breathing when lying on my back. I have had an EKG, Echocardiogram and holter monitor which all came bAck clear. I also had a barium swallow that was normal. My doctor put me on prilosec but it doesn't seem to be helping symptoms. I feel like I'm crazy...any ideas?

Welcome to Healing Well.

While a barium swallow can show reflux, it has to be liquid that comes up. you could have acid vapor and would need a PH study to show that. Also a manometry would show what your swallowing is like and what the LES pressure is.

Not everyone gets relief from any one PPI. Most people have to try a few different ones to get relief, but some of us never get relief from PPIs.

Thanks so much for the response, it's a frustrating process for sure! The symptoms so closely mimic other issues so it makes it difficult to know for sure. I will stick with it and hopefully find some relief. Is it normal to only have the symptoms of chest pain and burping after meals? I've never experienced nausea or anything like that. Thanks again!

Definitely normal. Some people have a lot of different symptoms and some people only have a burping issue.
