Hi Chavibaby,Welcome to Healing Well! I was fearful of getting the surgery even though I needed it, and it kept me from being healthy and having a good quality of life. I lived with it for about
six years, and finally was referred to a surgeon. I scheduled my surgery for three weeks later. Once I made the decision, it couldn't be soon enough.
Here's a link to my early recovery journal. It'll give you an idea of one person's experience with surgery and recovery:
www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=45&m=2183443Your DeMeester score is evidence of severe GERD, so you're a perfect candidate for a Nissen. You'll be very happy with the results. Make sure your surgeon is very experienced in doing the Nissen procedure. It's an art form, and it's important to choose someone who had done many, many procedures. In a large city, 1000+, and a small to medium city, 300+ procedures. In many places, there is one surgeon who gets most of the referrals. Choose your surgeon well, and you'll have great results.
Glad you've joined the forum! It's a great place to receive information and support as you go through the surgery and recovery.
Best wishes,
Denise
