omeprazole - how does it work, and weaning yourself off it.

Hi, I'm thinking of reducing my dose. Half to see if I can, and half to see how bad things really are.

How does this drug work please - If a person reduces their dose does the effect kick in immediately or does it take a few days for the drug to wear off?

What is generally a good schedule to wean yourself off 2 tablets per day.

Be aware of potential rebound while reducing your dose. Also, just read Gaviscon Advance (UK) has helped people overcome the rebound effect in order to successfully quit the PPI. And ys, it will depend on how long you've used the PPI. Good Luck

I too am weening myself off Nexium 40mg 1xday, I have been on it for approx 3 1/2 months. For the past 8 days I have taken it every other day, then I will go to every two days and so on. So far things have been okay, I did notice a difference on the second day with out it, gas return, belching and a little acid rising. I also have been taking probiotics, and drinking 1oz of aloe vera juice three times a day. Love love the aloe vera, it really works, also eating much smaller meals and excersing has been key, I had a whole day on Wed where I was symptom free, not a twinged.? I also got some DGL and Digestive Enzymes that arrived in the mail today, so I will let you know how they work out. My Endoscopy is schedule for Apr 3rd and I guess I will get more info on how I'm doing, but I wanted off Nexium because it is not good to be on it for long periods of time, it also has made my hair fall out. I know people have to have this drug as it is their only relief I just pray I'm not one of them, so that's the reason for my natural approach. This condition is so hard to live with, I pray for healing for everyone going through this.
