Just over 4 weeks post Linx, my wife & I flew out to New Zealand to start our usual 5 and a half month stay in Auckland. No problems at all on the Emirates flight out and only very mild and predictable Dysphagia. Now some 7 weeks after the Linx operation, I still have some mild throat irritation (it would be too much to hope for instantaneous relief!). However all the other symptoms (asthma, itchy inner ears, irritated eyes) have much reduced. I can eat virtually anything as long as I go slowly and pause to allow the Linx to
open for food passage. I had trouble with Tuna recently but only probably because I tried to swallow too much at once. I find it best to sit forward or stand up occasionally to burp after swallowing food. Then I know that the Linx has indeed
opened. Also never eat without a drink being available.
My 5 Laparoscopic stomach "ports" have completely closed over but with slight indenting due to some internal stitches which I am told take 3 months to dissolve. I have resumed my regime of an hour in the gym about
4 or 5 days a week.
I would unhesitatingly recommend this procedure to anyone who had similar symptoms to me. I believe there are more NHS hospitals offering it and more will in time.
I cannot praise BUPA enough for the fuss free way they dealt with my claim which I believe amounts to around £13,500. My discount bonus will of course be adversely affected - there is no free lunch.
