OMG I'm in pain but strange pain

Sorry I know I posted yesterday about pain and responded today. Nausea increased so much today so had to lay down a lot. Tried to eat more thinking maybe I needed more. Now wonder if too much food. Prob took in about 500 cal mainly drinks but had potato creamed soup (dairy free), porridge twice, jello, miso broth,.....think that's it besides fluids. All maybe 1/4 cp serving only. Some took a lot to eat. Thicker seems easier than thin fluids. Shoulder pain not relieved with pain meds and walking increases it. Definite stomach/ esophagus pain tonight. Both hips in my back hurt. Started my monthly but never suffer this pain. Sorry if TMI. I'm nervous. Feel like I'm going to throw up. Taking OxyContin 2.5-5mg IR every 4-6 hrs but last dose did nothing. Also in Maxeran and Voltaren and tecta. I don't get it. I'm 4 DPO. Incisions fine, a bit sore only. Passing gas and small burps. Should I be concerned? No cold fluids either. Only warm or room temp. I feel I shouldn't need pain meds and I need more.

Hi Wendy,sorry your having so much trouble. When did you have your surgery? Its sounds as your in very early recovery which im afraid can be quite tough.All I can say is that it will all ease off with time.Barry

Sorry I haven't responded to your posts sooner! When did you have your surgery? I'd be happy to respond to your recent symptoms/questions, but I need to get some background first. I looked for information via your profile/other posts, but couldn't seem to find your first one.

Glad you've joined the forum! It's a great place to be post-op.

Hello again,

I keep forgetting to hit notify when responses and then lose these threads. Denise I'm not 9 days post op. Doing much better than the day u posted this. Shoulder pain gone yesterday morning but back with a vengeance last night and today. Still some nausea off and on. Bill has been great in responding to my original post. Never knew if I should start a new thread or continue in my original thread. I have other symptoms but those are more tolerable. The thin fluids sometimes surprise me how much harder they are to swallow than thicker ones. 2 incision holes have increased in pain and go deep. I can definitely feel my actual stomach now and esophagus. Very tired but better. Inner left thigh pain/cramps started 2 nights ago. I'm on a restricted fluid intake only. Dr very cautious with me but not sure why. Had a bit of complications night of and night after surgery but all good now. Lost 11lbs so far. Can't imagine jumping back up tomorrow to pick up my kids at school again and all their activities but have to.

Hi Debra,

I remember hearing about the shoulder pain when reading posts here prior to my surgery. It always seems so bizarre to have pain in the shoulder after stomach surgery! I did a lot of reading and discovered it's referred pain, and it's very common.

When I was in the hospital, the night nurse gave me the best, best advice. She told me to get up and walk whenever I got out of bed for the bathroom. I took her advice, and walked a lot in the hospital--dragging my IV pole along.

I found that the more I walked, the less my shoulder hurt, and visa-versa. Give it a try. Walk, walk, walk, walk!

Hi Denise,

Thank you for the advice. I did read your tip about walking with every bathroom trip yes. I have been walking quite a bit it makes my shoulder worse, not better. It made the gas pains better though so assuming this is all referral pain. Still better though. Tonight it hurts more but tolerable. Ate a bit more so thinking that's what triggered it.
