Hi all,

Could you please tell me if you have had any type of reflux surgery, fundo, linx, tif, stretta etc, and if so how much you paid for it please.

It totally depends on your insurance and what the charge is.

My Nissen in 2009 was close to $80,000. I had a really bad case. Since it was auto-related I didn't have to pay anything. Today on my Medicare plan I'd be paying $6000, my maximum out of pocket for the year. Then there would be the annual checkups.

If you don't have insurance, get it!

Some hospitals and doctors charge many times what others do. You don't really want to shop for price, just get the doc with the best outcome record.

PS: Don't specify the type of operation. Get the one that is right for you. Nissen still has the best outcomes. But that's what all the testing is about!

My insurance paid for pretty much everything in the hospital. It does vary, depending on your coverage. Even the follow-up visit was include in the surgery costs. All pre-op lab tests were paid for.

Yes, if you don't have coverage, get it. If you do have coverage, call your insurance company and get an estimate.

For the NF that I had last month, the Surgeon was $3500, the anesthiologist was $5500, the hospital was $15000 for the overnight, and there was 2000 - 3000 of misc. meds, etc. Luckily my part after insurance was $2,500.

If you don't have insurance, one thing you can try is to negotiate with the billing department to pay up front what they would get if you had insurance. Then you borrow that money. Insurance pays maybe 1/3 of what is charged.

It's still cheaper to get insurance! There's no pre-conditions allowed anymore and you can't be refused. The only thing you have to do is make that first payment before getting anything done.

I do have insurance, plus I live in the UK so we get NHS treatment - I just wanted to know how much each procedure actually cost.

Hi GC1pink,i priced the linx before I got the nissen and it was £9300 which covered it being removed if something went wrong.Pretty expensive! I also priced the Nissen privately and it was between £6 and £7000,dont know if that covered all the preop testing or follow up appointments.
I chose the NHS in the end! Barry
