Though I rarely post, I have been reading the posts on this forum for about a year. My GERD developed 2 years ago after I tried to go on Naturethroid for Hashimoto's disease. After a few months of trying every alternative therapy offered by my naturopath to reduce the chronic intense burning, I went to an Integrative GI doctor in Los Angeles who put me on Zantac and Baclofen for GERD/LPR. (I wasn't ready to take a PPI at the time).
As long as I only ate a handful of foods, Zantac and Baclofen worked OK....for about a year. I added Prilosec OTC October 2013, and I wasn't impressed at first, but slowly I was able to eat more variety. In March of this year our family experienced some changes which caused my husband and I to move with our remaining children into a new home.
Things should have been fine. Moving was a good thing. My symptoms however escalated and their diversity amazed me, reminding me of the various symptoms I had read here on the forum.
Now that we are settled, some of the discomfort has subsided, BUT...I now have GERD/LPR all day long. I even tried eating only the foods that have served to calm my symptoms in the past, but there is no relief. I am very disappointed that many of the foods that I was tolerating easily are now generating severe reflux, so I am confined to eating the few foods that keep it at a mild simmer.
Because affording healthcare is difficult right now, my husband wants me to try taking (2) 20mg. Prilosec instead of the (1) 20mg. I'm taking now. I'm thinking of riding this out instead to see if this increase in reflux will simmer down, or if I can possibly consult with my doctor in LA some time this summer. My husband's suggestion is tempting, but I hate the idea of making these decisions without some sort of guidance.
This disease just keeps presenting challenges, and this post probably serves to vent my frustration of trying to manage it.
