Hi All,
I've had GERD for about 2.5years now and struggled off and on with it continually.
One thing I've noticed recently is that when I travel (for vacation or work) I often see a cessation of the vast majority of my symptoms. Two of my biggest problem areas are sleep and driving (get bad reflux in the car) and when I'm out on travel, both of these seem to completely resolve.
Has anyone else experienced this? I'm trying to figure out if it's from environmental factors (more humidity when I travel, as I come from a very dry climate, different allergens, etc.) or if it's something internal, like reduced stress / anxiety that reduces my symptoms. It's very odd but in my experience a very real effect. I have a somewhat stressful home life (my wife and I both work + three kids), so I'm imagining that relief from my day to day responsibilities is at least some of it.
Any feedback or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!
The allergens and humidity factors both sound plausible in their own ways. In fact I'm considering trying a humidifier for my room to see if it helps..! When yoy say travel, do you mean abroad or just nationally? If it is stress related - and trust me, I hope it is - maybe you just associate your local work and surroundings with reflux symptoms unconsciously?
Some people have said the extra sunlight abroad gives then more vitsmin d3 which supposedly helps reflux, but I think you can safely ignore that theory; I've been on vitamin d3 supplements for a year now and I get sufficent sunshine anyway, but it hasn't improved anything for me. :)
