Thoughts on Reglan?

The hospital ER put me on Reglan 10 mg about 2 weeks ago. I ran out and my family doctor wrote me for more. directions as follows: take 1 tab 30 minutes before each meal (do not exceed 3) and take one at bedtime. So a total of 4 pills a day.

my questions are:

what exactly does it do?
Is it effective? bc ive seen no difference in throwing up
I've heard that this is a short term medicine so what is the suggested weeks in taking this?
Anyone had any success in taking Reglan

Hi Jill,

I have been prescribed Reglan but I have not taken it due to the side effects that it can cause.
I have been on Domperidone and while it did work for several months, it eventually wore off and I stopped taking it.
I think Reglan is supposed to tighten your LES but like all medicines of this avenue it will only last for a while.
It's up to you to weigh up the pro's and cons of taking it, considering the risks.

Reglan makes the gut move faster, causes the stomach to empty sooner. It worked well for me. It's got serious side effects possible. I had facial tics after a few months.

We can't get Domperidone in the USA, unless that's changed recently.

I would still try the Reglan, but be aware of any muscle spasms and stop if you get them. I didn't have any withdrawal problems stopping suddenly. I was on 4 a day.
