4 Month Journey from heartburn to constant throat burning and bad taste/mucus

I will try to break this down as quickly as possible and hope someone can help me out here because my doctor is practically useless.

The first two months: I we getting heartburn randomly. Maybe 3-7 times a week and usually after eating or in extremely stressful situations. I didn't think anything of it until the last week of this period where it was happening everyday. I went to the doctor and was put on medicine to stomp my stomach from producing acid. I can get the name tomorrow if it matters, but it started with an A ended with a zone. From what I understand they all do the same thing. This seemed to help, but I was still getting heartburn.

The third month: I stopped getting heartburn for the most part and was not just having a really uncomfortable feeling in my chest, mainly above nipple in my upper peck. I wasn't having any throat burning feeling or mucus problems. I was still taking the medicine and also started taking DGL which didn't seem to do much.

Current month: This isn't a living nightmare, but it really sucks. I have a constant bad taste in my mouth, mucus in my throat(it almost feels like the back of my throat is constantly cold/sometimes burning) and then my throat burns most of the time. I also seem to have a really dry mouth. I went back to the doctor at this point and he told me it was just my diet(yeah I don't know how this is possible I went without eating for two days and I still had it). So, he put me back on the medicine and for 15 days it did nothing. So, I stopped taking it after reading some conflicting views. I tried drinking braggs apple cider vinegar and the last 2 days I've been taking HCL with pepsin before meals. Haven't notice a change. I really can't take this anymore. I'm trying to get a scope and praying (not even religious) that someone can point me in the right direction.

Hi

You could have gastritis giving you reflux acid or ever H pylori infection Giving you reflux acid. Or you have a loose upper oesophageal valve causing you GERD(acid reflux). There is no short term cures here so you must toughen up here and the first thing is to fix your diet. Low fat and boiled mostly and no acidic fruits or vegetables, no coffee or caffeinated drinks, reduce fats but dont stop eating fats completely also try stay away from dairy products and food with added fake vitamins like cornflakes and i find can't tolerate iron added foods much but try and see. Google gastritis diet or reflux diet and follow one or other and also try it smaller but more often, 5 rather than 3 meals.

I would get hnpylori check done first thing, then if you are private or NHS patient either next thing is doctors put you on ppi. These are acid blockers and usually take 5-7 days to work and sometimes longer. Sometimes they dont even work for some and you should try a different PPI and some find H2 blockers like ranitidine/cimatadine/fomitadine work/don't work better. So discuss with your doctor as to which you should try, i went through most of them and I just can't tolerate their side effect.
Usually Dr put people on 8 weeks ppi and monitor symptoms and another 8 weeks if required if not better then they examine LRP type problems and either perform test like PH, manometry or endoscopy tests and more if required . If its Loose oesophageal valve they just either keep you on ppi long term or perform surgery.

There could be other reasons for your symptoms, apart from those things like Heital hernia, bile reflux, gallbladder or pancreas issues or many other reasons. So go doctor and do blood test for pancreas/liver issues.

Also gastritis can be painless and you could also still get painless silent acid reflux that can reek havoc with your system.

Good luck and fix the diet, you gotta experiment really as everyone is different.

also try gaviscon ( nut not same time as taking ppi, but 2 hours after or before your ppi) its might help after meals.

Thank you for the long reply. PPI's I've taken for three months and they don't help at all. I still just have a constant phlem/cold feeling in the back of my throat with a bad taste.

Hi willwall,

You probably have Helicobacteria Pyrl, very nasty bacteria in the Stomach, it has to be treated immediatelly with Antibiotics. You need to go to GP Doctor and ask them that you want to do Stool Sample of your toilet poo and Blood Test and urine as well to see if you have infection also. Because Helicobacteria Pyrl triggers your acid and makes GERD/ACID REFLUX and other problem as well. If you are positive on Helicobacteria Pyrl, you will be prescribe Antibiotics, your Doctor will give you Antibiotics to take in the morning and evening. After you finished your antibiotics, you must wait at least 4 weeks to do stool sample again to see if its positive or negative, remember you must not take PPI fore 2 weeks of the stool sample. If your stool sample shows negative but you are still not well, it means you are still have Helicobacteria. There is sometimes error on negative or positive, even doctor says its negative, but wait another 2 or 3 weeks and do re-test on your stool sample. Quadruple therapy Antibiotics are strong and very effective, its about 3000mg a day for 2 weeks. I had a bad test and smell but its gone now when I did antibiotics, it takes time but don't give up, I nearly did but I moved forwards

They already did a blood test for bacteria. Something palori I think it was called. I can't remember the exact name but it came back negative. I'm assuming it is the same bacteria you are talking about, but I am not sure.

Hi willwall,

I actually did Blood Test and Breathing, they both came negative, but when I did Stool sample test it came positive.

Best thing you need to try Stool sample test to your GP Doctor, it will take 3 days for result to come back. Its no harm
