Hello folks, I've been lurking around the outer corners of your site for a month now, as I was going through all the testing and considering surgery. Now my Nissen is scheduled for Sept 5, and it's time to introduce myself.
I'm a 56-yo woman, 5' 7", 140#, whose GERD is not playing nice with her asthma. I've had pneumonia twice in the past year due to regurgitation. I didn't realize how terrible my GERD was until I had to go off my PPIs for the Bravo test. Yikes. Actually, I guess it's technically NERD since it's non-erosive.
Entirely appropriate since I work in technology.
I've read multiple peoples' accounts of their recovery - thank you so much, those who were willing to do that! It's been a huge help to read not only horror stories, but also slow but steady recoveries by others. I especially appreciate the encouragement to fully enter into the recovery instead of thinking I can make it follow my schedule.
I'm making a checklist of things to do before my surgery - get the post-surgery Rx filled, buy a protein drink powder, get a case of jello and pudding, see if my current Rx (not PPIs) can be obtained in liquid form, etc.
I'd love to hear from those of you in the wrapped club to see if there's anything I'm missing. Being well prepared will definitely give me peace of mind on September 4.
