Dexilant Anyone?

Hello,
I have what my doctors are telling me is GERD. I have had 2 endoscopy's in the past 3 years. After the first my GI said that I have a 'loose valve' causing acid to escape.

My symptoms are mainly burning, gnawing, bad nausea, pain in the stomach area, also sternum area. Also I have bad back pain that I feel is related as it happens during the time I feel the upper abdominal burning and pain. Sometimes I feel a bit of burning in my chest and extra hoarseness in the morning but the most important and debilitating symptom is the upper abdominal pain and nausea.

I was given Pariet and took it for about a year. I stopped and my symptoms came back way worse. Started again and stopped at the start of this summer and felt horrible all summer. Had another endo and of August where GI spoke with me while I was still out of it. I don't remember what he said!!! He gave me GERD fact sheets, and prescribed Dexilant as a new gerd MED.

I'm scared to take it as I se diarrhea is a side effect that seems to be common. Instead I started the Pariet again but I would say its only touching my issue 60-70% :(

My questions:
Does this sound like GERD? (It seems so severe)

Have you tried Dexilant? What were your results?

Everyone seems to respond to PPIs in their own unique ways. Some (like me) have no side effects, while others just can't tolerate the side effects that they have.

I've taken Prilosec, Nexium, and Protonix, and never had any side effects (even though there was a long list of possible side effects). My son takes Dexilant, and has no problems whatsoever.

I suggest you give it a try, and see if it is well-tolerated. Perhaps your GI doc can give you some samples. My son's doctor did that. That way you can try it without investing a lot of money in the prescription.

Good luck! I hope you get your GERD under control. By the way, if you were too out of it to understand your doc's description of the endoscopy result, be sure to call the office and speak to a nurse. They owe you the information!
