nexium twice a day. when should i take my second dose?

ive been given nexium and told to take it twice daily but i wasn't told when. i assume at the end of the day but should i take it before my last meal or before bedtime?

Welcome to Healing Well! Pat has giving you a great resource. Like her, I was never told how to get the most of of my PPI.

Here's the Cliff Notes version of the article:

Take your first Nexium an hour before breakfast and the second dose an hour before dinner. Always take the medication on an empty stomach.

In order to get the most out of the PPIs, be sure that the very first thing you put into your stomach at both of those meals is high in protein. The article suggests milk as an easy first food, but any protein is fine.

It's sad that most docs don't provide this important information to their patients. The article says that most people get as little as 10% of the benefit of their medication because they're not taking it properly.
