Hi Adam. Glad to see you dropped in to our forum. Have you considered the Linx. They have a team at Swedish which is kinda near your area. It would be worth a read for you.

Suggest you use our search engine to read the comments about the TIF. I can't recall many favorable comments about it. Sounds like you've done reseaech on it though. Why not ask to speak to patients that had the TIF about a year ago. The surgeons nurse assistant should be willing to help with arranging it. It helps to talk and ask about their recovery period, foods consumed, physical endurance post TIF, are they glad they did it, would they do it again . Our surgeon painted a rosy eat anything that makes one want to do it. If there are problems several months post then you normally get sent to GI doctor--(speaking about our family experiences).
Wish you well with your health. Please let us know what you decide and follow up information to forum helps us all so much. Pat
I have heard of the Linx procedure, in fact the same surgeon who is supposed to be doing my TIF mentioned it to me. She did, however, elaborate that it introduces a larger, foreign body into the abdomen and that the safety of having such an item inside you has not been well-tested safety-wise. Of course, it does seem to have potential benefits such as no direct manipulation of the stomach tissue, and is likely easy-reversal.
I'm surprised that as many people would have posted negative comments about
TIF, at least given the reported success rate being comparable to the traditional Nissan-type. My main issue with the Nissen or other possible routes was the dissection that needs to take place, and also the common side-effect of less appetite and a smaller stomach cavity to accommodate food. I am actually trying to gain 5-10 pounds pre-procedure because I do not want to lose weight as a result of this. I'm already fairly thin and active (or, as active as possible given my condition with GERD).
To be honest, even if the TIF provides partial (say 75% relief) of symptoms and lasts just a few years, it will have been worth it for me. My only concerns are post-operative pain and complications and of course that it will have zero effect whatsoever. I still have time to consider, but I doubt I'd go the route of the Nissan over the TIF, especially considering TIF is reversible.
Thanks for the input :)
